Kim Clavel Claims Two-Weight Title in MVP Debut, Tamm Thibeault Destroys Rival

  • by

MVP’s latest signing, Kim Clavel, emphatically reclaimed her place at the top of the sport on Friday night, becoming a two-weight world champion in front of her adoring home fans at the historic Théâtre St-Denis in Montreal.

Clavel (22-2, 3 KOs) expertly turned back the challenge of Argentina’s previously unbeaten Sol Cudos (10-1-2, 3 KOs) to capture the vacant IBF minimumweight crown at 105 pounds. The Canadian crowd favorite set a blisteringly fast pace and never let up, controlling the action with crisp body work and sharp head combinations. While Cudos landed a heavy left hook in the seventh, Clavel’s punishing volume, relentless accuracy, and tireless energy proved the definitive difference.

The judges’ wide scorecards confirmed Clavel’s dominant performance, with scores of 99-91, 98-92, and 98-92, solidifying her status as the newest female world champion of the MVP stable.

A cut near her right eye in the fifth could not slow her momentum and only spurred her forward. Post-fight, a jubilant Clavel paid tribute to the sacrifice that defined her road back to the top:

“This was sweat, dedication, and tears. Tonight it all paid off. Credit to Sol Cudos, she gave me a tremendous fight.”

Thibeault Delivers Instant, Crushing Fireworks

In the co-feature, the boxing world witnessed the immediate threat of MVP’s two-time Canadian Olympian and amateur world champion Tamm Thibeault (4-0, 3 KOs).

Returning to Quebec for her first professional fight on home soil, the #1-ranked IBF and WBA middleweight contender wasted absolutely no time, demolishing Italy’s Cristina Mazzotta (1-1) in under a minute.

Thibeault landed a blistering, surgical right-left combination that floored Mazzotta just 54 seconds into the opening round. With Mazzotta clearly dazed and her corner immediately waving the white flag, the referee correctly halted the contest.

Speaking with Ariel Helwani afterward, the future star showcased her ambition.

“Honestly, I wish it had lasted longer – but respect to Cristina for stepping in. This is just the beginning.”

Heavyweight newcomer and German Olympian Nelvie Tiafack (2-0, 2 KOs) continued his destructive, statement-making start to life as a professional by forcing Ramiro Robles (5-1, 3 KOs) to retire after four punishing rounds. The 26-year-old bronze medalist cut inside at will, landing massive left hooks, uppercuts, and combinations as Robles tried to walk him down.
