Jaron Ennis makes statement KO at 154, Eddie Hearn unloads post-fight

Jaron “Boots” Ennis didn’t just answer the critics — he shut them up inside two minutes.

After a week of questions over his opponent choice and résumé, the former unified welterweight king, who was struggling badly to make the 147-pound limit, stormed through Uisma Lima in the first round to capture the WBA Interim Super Welterweight Title at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in his hometown of Philadelphia.

The Knockout Sequence

The 28-year-old, fighting at a career-high 154 pounds, switched southpaw early, traded fire, and detonated a right uppercut that rocked Lima to his boots. Seconds later, a left–hand–right hook combo sent the Andorran to the floor for the first of three knockdowns.

Lima bravely rose, but Ennis unloaded with frightening accuracy, scoring a second knockdown with a blurring combination before referee Shawn Clark stepped in to end the slaughter at 1:58 of the first round.

It was ruthless, clinical, and precisely what a fully-powered Ennis needed after weeks of doubters suggesting he’d taken the easy route for his super welterweight debut.

“I did what I came to do,” said a calm Ennis post-fight. “I told y’all I was going to make a statement. I’m here now at super welter. Bring the names. I’m ready for everyone.”

Now 35-0 (31 KOs), Ennis has planted his flag in a new division and declared war on its biggest stars — Vergil Ortiz Jr., Jermell Charlo, Sebastian Fundora, and any other titleholder.

Eddie Hearn’s Post-Fight Rant

When questioned by a reporter post-fight about who he needed next, promoter Eddie Hearn interjected and fired back in no uncertain terms.

“Fundora, Zayas, Baraou – anyone with a belt,” said Hearn. When asked further if those opponents are realistic, the Essex man stated bluntly, “I’ve noticed you’ve asked a lot of questions this week, and everyone’s been generally negative, so I’m going to put a positive spin on it.

“I’m the best in the business, he’s the best in the business. Facts. I’m going to do my job, he’s going to do his job. Facts. I’ve got a job to do because I don’t want to miss this opportunity to watch this guy beat everybody. And I’m going to enjoy every f-ing moment of watching him become pound-for-pound number one.”
